You latch onto a creature’s life force and draw it into yourself.
Choose one creature you can see within range. The target must make a Constitution saving throw.
On a failed save, the target takes 1d8 necrotic damage, and you regain hit points equal to half the damage dealt, rounded up.
On a successful save, the target takes half as much damage, and you regain no hit points.
For the duration, you may use your action on each of your turns to repeat this effect against the same target, provided it remains within range and you can see it.
The spell ends early if the target is reduced to 0 hit points, if the target moves more than 60 feet away from you, or if you lose sight of it.
At higher levels: When you cast this spell, you may spend 1 Soul Shard. If you do, the initial damage increases to 2d8, and the healing applies even if the target succeeds on its saving throw.
