Neodinium Scabbard in Dungeons & Dragons 5e

Neodinium Scabbard

Wondrous Item

Uncommon

This unusual metal scabbard is believed to be the only surviving prototype created by the former Deputy Commander of the Waterdeep City Watch, a brilliant artificer whose disappearance remains a closely guarded secret among the city's leadership.
One side of the scabbard contains a thin ribbed electromagnet forged from an experimental neodinium alloy of iron and boron. The opposite side remains partially open, allowing the blade to slide freely while still being held firmly in place by magnetic force. A small switch near the throat of the scabbard reverses the current, causing the weapon to be violently repelled outward.

The scabbard can house a longsword or another slashing weapon of similar size at the DM's discretion.

Propelled Draw

While a suitable weapon is sheathed within this scabbard, you can use a bonus action to arm the mechanism. The next time you draw the weapon and hit a creature with it before the end of your turn, the attack roll is made with advantage and the attack deals an additional 1d4 slashing damage.

Overcharge (2/long rest)

When you use Propelled Draw, you can channel electrical energy through the scabbard's magnetic coils. To do so, you must be able to cast a spell that deals lightning damage, or otherwise possess a feature that allows you to deal lightning damage as part of the same turn (DM's discretion). When you do, the additional damage from Propelled Draw increases from 1d4 to 2d6 slashing damage.
