Valence Compass Tattoo

Wondrous Item

Uncommon None

Convent of the Marked: When a creature bearing the mark of Valence finishes a short rest, they regain an additional number of hit points equal to the number of other creatures within 30 feet who are marked by Valence. A creature who has benefitted from this trait cannot do so again until after they finish a Long Rest.   Send Missive: You can request that Valence deliver a message to a named creature you have met, provided they are on the same plane of existence as you. When you do so, Valence sends a Small Air Elemental to you, which you can then give up to 3 pounds worth of contents to deliver. Once you name the creature, the Air Elemental races to the recipient, arriving within 15 minutes. The Elemental will then wait for up to 15 minutes for a response before returning to you, and then it will disappear. Once you have used this trait, you cannot use it again for another 12 days.   The Valence Compass Tattoo also holds up to 3 charges, which can be utilized in a number of ways. Any expended charges are regained at the next dawn.   Contact Deity: Over the course of a minute, provided the tattoo still has at least one charge, you can attempt to commune with Valence. When you do so, you might ask for advice or aid, which Valence can choose to provide; alternatively, you may ask for directions toward a particular object or creature, or towards completing a goal. If Valence chooses, a mote of light will then appear to guide you for up to five minutes, or until it finishes guiding you, after which it fades. This trait can only be used once, and you regain usage of this trait at dusk.   Block the Path: As a reaction to seeing another creature within 60 feet be targeted with an attack, you can expend 1 charge from the tattoo and cause a barrier of shimmering light to appear around the targeted creature. This barrier effectively raises the AC of the protected creature by +2, potentially turning a hit into a miss. This barrier lasts for a minute, or until a critical hit is scored against the protected creature.   Protective Bubble: As a reaction to being hit by an attack, you can choose to expend 2 or more charges from the tattoo. When you do so, a barrier of light and wind bursts into existence around you, raising your AC by +5 for a number of rounds equal to the number of charges expended. This AC bonus can turn the triggering attack into a miss, should your new AC be higher than the original result.

This magical tattoo is shaped like a circle with 6 lines around it at odd intervals. Over the course of a minute, the tattoo can be cosmetically altered, changing the positioning, color, and location of the symbol on your body, and you can choose to have either 1 or 2 of these tattoos. Regardless of the cosmetic features of the tattoo, the other traits do not change in any way- for instance, if you choose to have two tattoos, they share the same pool of charges, which does not increase. When the tattoo's charges are all expended, its color dulls and fades so that it nearly matches the bearer's skin tone.
