GENERIC VARIANT UNKNOWN RARITY
An old tome barely holding together, its pages yellowed and crumbling to the touch. It lists various types of gemstones and how to best use each one for magic. Some of the pages are so damaged you can't even peel them apart, and the rest of the tome is written in an older version of common that is troublesome to decipher. But with time, you can transcribe its contents.

Gemstones with Innate Magic
- Amber: Affiliated with electricity
- Amethyst: Amplifies magic mouth and other communication magics, and can be used to store sounds
- Andar: Useful for treasure hunting
- Archon: Can detect creatures hidden by invisibility and similar spells
- Augelite: Magically inert, and can weaken the effects of spells
- Bloodstone: Affiliated with invisibility, divination, and storms
- Blue quartz: Affiliated with scrying and similar far-seeing spells, making them ideal for crafting gems of seeing
- Chalcedony: Affiliated with necromancy and protection against undead
- Clelophane: Able to record illusory "echoes" of events when exposed to magic
- Euclase: Known to erupt violently with fire when exposed to magic
- Garnet: When transfixed to ordinary weapons, can imbue them with magic
- Hematite: Affiliated with healing
- Hornbill ivory: Affiliated with flight
- Hyaline: Used to detect the presence of magic
- Iris agate: Can repel and reflect spell effects
- Jade: Affiliated with music and said to enhance musical ability
- Lumachella: Affiliated with water breathing and similar spells
- Luriyl: Able to detect scrying magic
- Moss agate: Affiliated with sleep and serenity, and has a stabilizing effect on potion mixtures
- Rhodochrosite: Affiliated with curing drunkenness, poisons and diseases
- Serpentine: Affiliated with protection against cold and fire
- Sharpstone: Used to increase the radius of spell effects
- Snowflake obsidian: Can protect from the effects of a dragon's breath weapon
- Sunstone: Affiliated with light
