Softwood sand

Wondrous Item

Uncommon

Description.

This fine, shimmering sand like powder is rarely found outside the workshops of master woodworkers and magical craftsmen. It is created from the sap of a rare creeping vine that weakens trees so it can burrow into them. When sprinkled onto wood, the dust temporarily softens the material, making it easier to shape or cut.

Application.

You can apply one dose of this dust to a wooden surface, covering up to 0.25 m² (0.5m*0.5m). The dust seeps into the wood to a depth of 2 cm. For the next 10 minutes, the affected wood becomes soft and pliable. While softened the wood’s AC becomes 8. Strength checks made to cut, break, or force open the wood have advantage and tt can be carved, bent, or cut with ease.
After 10 minutes, the wood returns to its original hardness.

The dust has no effect on coated or treated wood, such as the timbers used in shipbuilding.
Contact with water immediately ends the effect, as moisture neutralizes the dust.
