This could be the favor of a god, a natural gift, or some other reason. Whatever the reason, it allows you to better protect yourself and those around you. Through your training you have learned not only how to use your shield to defend against blows and push your opponents back, but also how to use your shield's weight as a deadly offensive weapon.
The Size of your shield generates a bonus AC, damage die, and other effects.

Fighting Style

You adopt a particular style of fighting as your specialty. Choose one of the following options. You can’t take a Fighting Style option more than once, you gain an additional style at 5th level, 12th level, and 17th level.

Protection
When a creature you can see attacks a target other than you that is within 5 feet of you, you can use your reaction to impose disadvantage on the attack roll. You must be wielding a shield.

Defense
While you are wearing armor, you gain a +1 bonus to AC.

Parry
If you use your reaction to block with a shield, and you roll a 19 or 20 against an attack made with a melee weapon and succeed, your opponent's weapon is knocked to the ground. the opponent must be within 5 feet of you.

Basher
If you take the Attack action on your turn, you can use a bonus action to try to shove a creature within 5 feet of you with your shield.

Charger
Requirements: Basher or Path of Avalon
If you shove a creature you shove it 10 feet instead of 5 feet

Dueling
When you are wielding a melee weapon in one hand and no other Weapons, you gain a +2 bonus to Damage Rolls with that weapon.

Great Weapon Fighting
When you roll a 1 or 2 on a damage die for an Attack you make with a melee weapon that you are wielding with two hands, you can reroll the die and must use the new roll, even if the new roll is a 1 or a 2. The weapon must have the Two-Handed or Versatile property for you to gain this benefit.

Entrenched
When you decide to settle into a defensive stance, there aren’t many who can break past it. At the 2nd level, if you do not use your movement on your turn you go into a defensive stance. Meaning that all attacks made against you are done with a disadvantage, making an attack action removes you from your defensive stance.

Shielder Paths

Choose a Shielder Path, which describes the source of your defensive power detailed at the end of the class description. In addition, you get advantage against being knocked prone.

Hold the line

When you reach level 6, while entrenched, you may spend your action to make all friendly creatures within 5 feet to the side or behind you share the benefits of entrenchment. This lasts until the end of their next turn. You also gain the ability to use pikes and lances one handed; in addition, spears damage is increased to 1d8.

Punish their Advance

Starting at level 10, when you successfully damage a creature that is your size or smaller, you may spend your bonus action to reduce their movement to 0. Doing this ensure that the creature attacks you the following round.

Sweeping Disengage

At level 14, when 2 or more enemies are within 5 feet of you, you may spend your action and attacks to make a wide sweeping attack on all creatures, this attack does not suffer from disadvantage from being too close if using a lance. You move 5 feet in a direction away from the creatures and removed from entrenchment. This does not provoke an attack of opportunity. You may then move at half your movement.

Barrage of Spears

Once you reach 18th level, you may spend all attacks and reaction to begin a barrage of spears. Once you begin the barrage, you do not stop attacking until either the target is dead or you miss an attack. You forego your next turn and lose entrenchment. Once you use this feature, you must finish a Long Rest before you can use it again.

Brutal Execution

At level 20, if you kill a creature of medium size or bigger with Barrage of Spears, any creature of that size or smaller within line of sight must succeed a DC (20 + your Con modifier) Constitution saving throw or be frightened and have their movement reduced to half.

Path of Magus
Focus on Support (Necromancy, Illusion, Abjuration, and Enchantment) magic.

Spellcasting

When you reach 2nd level, you augment your defensive prowess with the ability to cast spells. See chapter 10 for the general rules of spellcasting and chapter 11 for the wizard spell list. Your shield can be used as your arcane focus.

Cantrips
You learn two cantrips of your choice from the wizard spell list. You learn additional wizard cantrips of your choice at higher levels

Spell Slots
The Shielder Spellcasting table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your spells of 1st level and higher. To cast one of these spells, you must expend a slot of the spell's level or higher. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest.

For example, if you know the 1st-level spell Shield and have a 1st-level and a 2nd-level spell slot available, you can cast Shield using either slot.

Spells Known of 1st Level and Higher
You know three 1st-level wizard spells of your choice, two of which you must choose from the abjuration and evocation spells on the wizard spell list.

The Spells Known column of the Shielder Spellcasting table shows when you learn more wizard spells of 1st level or higher. Each of these spells must be an abjuration or evocation spell of your choice, and must be of a level for which you have spell slots. For instance, when you reach 7th level in this class, you can learn one new spell of 1st or 2nd level.

The spells you learn at 8th, 14th, and 20th level can come from any school of magic. Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can replace one of the wizard spells you know with another spell of your choice from the wizard spell list. The new spell must be of a level for which you have spell slots, and it must be an abjuration or evocation spell, unless you're replacing the spell you gained at 3rd, 8th, 14th, or 20th level from any school of magic.

Spellcasting Ability Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for your wizard spells, since you learn your spells through study and memorization. You use your Wisdom whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Wisdom modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a wizard spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one.

Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier

Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier

Shielder Spellcasting TableLevel | Cantrips known | Spells Known | Spell Slots 1st 2nd 3rd 4th2 | 2 | 3 | 2 - - -3 | 2 | 3 | 2 - - -4 | 2 | 4 | 3 - - -5 | 2 | 4 | 3 - - -6 | 3 | 4 | 3 - - -7 | 3 | 5 | 4 2 - -8 | 3 | 6 | 4 2 - -9 | 3 | 6 | 4 2 - -10 | 3 | 7 | 4 3 - -11 | 4 | 8 | 4 3 - -12 | 4 | 8 | 4 3 - -13 | 4 | 9 | 4 3 2 -14 | 4 | 10 | 4 3 2 -15 | 4 | 10 | 4 3 2 -16 | 4 | 11 | 4 3 3 -17 | 4 | 11 | 4 3 3 -18 | 4 | 11 | 4 3 3 -19 | 4 | 12 | 4 3 3 120 | 4 | 13 | 4 3 3 1Double Actioned

At level 6, you may take two casting actions during your turn rather than two attacks.

Arcane Recovery

At level 10, Once per day when you finish a short rest, you can choose expended spell slots to recover. The spell slots can have a combined level that is equal to or less than half your Shielder level (rounded up), and none of the slots can be 6th level or higher.

For example, if you're a 4th-level Shielder, you can recover up to two levels worth of spell slots. You can recover either a 2nd-level spell slot or two 1st-level spell slots.

Anti-magic Zone

At level 14, if a spell would target a creature within 10 feet of you, then you may have the caster do so at disadvantage. You may use this ability up to five times per long rest.

Magical Construction

By level 18, you have limited knowledge of how to imbue trinkets such as rings and necklaces with magic. You can now enchant any non-weapon or non-armor with any infusion from the Artificer's list from any level equal to half your Shielder level and below. You may have up to three of these trinkets at any given time.

The Ultimate Shield

At level 20, You may cast Template:5e: Invulnerability upon yourself by spending your action. When Invulnerability ends, your exhaustion level increases to level 3 and your movement is reduced to 15 feet.

BulwarkShield Smash

Beginning when you choose this archetype at 3rd level, if you take the attack action on your turn and have a shield equipped, you can as a bonus action, use your shield as a weapon. It's damage die is a d4 and it deals bludgeoning damage. You can make a melee attack against a creature within 5 feet or use your shield as a thrown weapon with a range of 20/60. If you hit a creature with your shield as a part of the thrown ranged attack the shield ricochets back to you. This ignores the action cost to doff and don the shield for this attack. If you miss the attack, you forfeit your shield’s bonus to AC until you retrieve and equip it.

This bonus action, as well as the bonus action provided by the Shield Master feat (if taken) may be taken before, in-between, or after you have completed the attack action.

To the End of the Line

Additionally, at 3rd level, you can add your proficiency bonus to saving throws (that don't already include this bonus) made against spells or effects that otherwise are guaranteed to knock you unconcious (ie. a spell that sets you to 0 hp, grants the unconcious condition, or a spell with minimum damage enough to drop you to 0 hit points).

Armament Informed

Starting at 7th level, due to your special interest and study of arms and armor you’ve learned how to identify origins of its creation. If you spend 1 minute to inspect a weapon or set of armor, you can learn information about its country of origin, the race/style of the smith that forged it, and the era in which it was created.

Shield Adept

Additionally at 7th level, you can don or doff a shield as a bonus action; and your shield smash now deals 1d6 bludgeoning damage.

Shield Prowess

At 10th level, when you make your Shield Smash melee or ranged attack, as well as the bonus action provided by the Shield Master feat (if taken), you can make an additional Shield Smash attack as a part of the same bonus action.

Shield Expert

Starting at 15th level, your shield is an extension of your body in combat. If you are subjected to an effect that allows you to make a Dexterity saving throw to take only half damage, you only take half damage even if you fail on the saving throw.

One with the Shield

At 18th level, your shield smash now deals 1d8 bludgeoning damage.
