What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

The map background is often a solid colour that might not necessarily line up with the visual theme of the map image itself, or the general styling of the world.
For instance, in a world I'm creating I've gone for a generally blue/dark blue colour palette - and this is reflected through the visuals of my maps too. It's a little jarring therefore to have a dark-grey/red background behind the map when the user zooms out.   I'm struggling to find a solution to this - it is not mentioned in the world anvil map codex and I'm not particularly code-savy.   I think the simplest way of solving this is to add an option somewhere in the global visual settings tabs - something like a 'global map background cover'.   Additionally, this could also be done on a map-by-map basis, but unless a global option is also provided this could get quite tiresome.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

I believe I can make my maps a lot more immersive if I had the power to do this! At the very least, it would make the map visuals more cohesive.

What are other uses for this feature request?

I think this small visual change would give map makers another tool to make their maps more immersive and visually pleasing. Beyond that it has limited use, and is primarily an aesthetic feature.
