global-field local-field
I add a navigation table to all of my articles, as do many others. I'm also a frequent user of global fields, and I've been thinking that it would've been so handy if categories had a couple "global" fields of their own that automatically applied to every article in that category.
I think this is technically possible by putting all the content in the global fields and using category-specific classes or tags to hide them with css and only reveal the ones that are relevant. This seems inefficient, hard to update, and like it would make load times worse than they really have to be, especially in big worlds.
I think the most useful fields would be at the bottom of the article but above the navigation, for navigation tables (or navboxes) or the category table of contents. The top or bottom of the sidebar would also be a lovely place to put a category book cover, or (imagining that the category is about a country) an articleblock to the article about the country.
This would be a huge boon to people with multiverse or multipurpose worlds, but it would also let people set up a more specific footer or sidebar for specific content. For example, you could add an author profile and links to your manuscripts to your short story category, but focus on your game expertise and linking to your campaigns in the ttrpg category.
