maps mapmaking maptool
What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
I think there is a readability issue wen it comes to a specific part of the map system. When creating a map it is placed on an empty white background - when the map is on a smaller scale such as a city this functions just fine - However when creating a world map in a Mercator projection style I think this background can make it difficult to visualize the actual distance and relation between two points on opposite sides of the map.
My suggestion is simply a map looping or tiling system (similar to google maps/earth). It could be an option when creating a map to tile it horizontally, vertically, both, or not at all. I think this would allow users to better understand the distance between 2 cities or locations.
I am personally unaware how the current system functions on a coding level or how this would affect or even be possible with map markers. I just thought it would be worth suggesting.
How does this feature request address the current situation?
I think giving a looping map option can make viewers better understand City/state relations - and their geographic connections. Further be able to visualize the distances between areas to better find the shortest path.
What are other uses for this feature request?
I think this could prove to be a useful tool for mapmakers- giving them a visual to create more consistent and readable world maps. - making use of the both the horizontal and vertical tile feature could give map makers a way to make infinite or repeating spaces with less of a concern on image size.

Follow up
Thanks to everyone who voted on this suggestion! Ill probably be doing more research to see if I can push for this again in the future. I completely understand where WA is coming from and want to thank them for at least taking a look.
The Team's Response
Thanks for your suggestion! Unfortunately, looping would be a very complex functionality to implement, as maps on World Anvil aren't just images (they have links, markers, polygons, and more). It didn't reach enough support for us to consider implementing such a complex feature, so we're declining this.
