in-world-date metadata
What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
I am requesting the addition of metadata that would indicate the in-world date at the time the article was last updated. For example, if I save an article, and my in-world date was set to 23-35-1028, this metadata item would display 23-35-1028. If, at some point in the future, I need to check whether that article reflects an event that happened on 26-43-1028, I can glance at that metadata item and know unambiguously that I need to update the article.
My in-world date advances over time, but it doesn't always do so at the same rate; depending on events of the campaigns I run, sometimes 1 month of in-world time passes during 1 real-world year, and sometimes 1 month of in-world time passes during only a couple of real-world weeks. As a result, real-world date/time of last article update is not always a reliable proxy for how much has happened in-world in the time since I last updated an article.
I would also greatly appreciate the ability to search for articles based on this metadata value, so if I need to check which articles need to be updated to reflect an in-world event that occurred on a certain in-world day, I could search for articles that have a last-updated in-world date before that day.
How does this feature request address the current situation?
The addition of this metadata would allow me to quickly identify articles that need to be updated to reflect in-world events that have occurred since the last time I updated that article. I often have a more precise recollection of the in-world date on which those events occurred than the real-world date on which they came about through campaign/writing decisions, so specifically tracking in-world date as of last article updated would be useful for keeping articles up-to-date in "live" worlds in which time passes.
What are other uses for this feature request?
Frankly, I'm not sure there are many other uses. This is, admittedly, probably a niche issue. But, if it is doable, having this extra bit of metadata would make my worldbuilding workflow just a bit easier. :)
Thanks for the consideration!
The Team's Response
Thanks for the suggestion! We're declining thing because we don't think the technical effort would be worth it given the niche that this would serve. We also think that the usecase you describe isn't ver clear (as if the in-world date is based on the last save, that would mean that simply fixing a typo could mark the article as "updated"). As an alternative, you can use tags to track which articles need updating. You could also have tags for different dates. Since tags are searchable, you'd be able to immediately get all articles that have a specific in-world date.
