What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

At present it's very easy to fill your chronicle map with markers and this can become annoying if they only relate to one event.  

How does this feature request address the current situation?

I have no idea how difficulty this would be to implement or if it would be very intensive on the site, but I think it would be cool if when you scrolled through your timeline you only saw markers for the events taking place at that moment. This could help reduce the clutter on the map and make each marker seem more important since it isn't surrounded by 5 more.    Like I said I don't know how practical this is but it just seems like and simple solution to what is other wise a small issue.
