Have some basic templates, such as a Newspaper format, available in manuscripts.

manuscripts formatting columns documents templates user-submissions epistolary-work

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

I am writing an epistolary work that requires quite a lot of official documents like contracts and newspaper articles to be reproduced. I am finding it quite difficult to format some of these in manuscripts. Newspaper articles in particular are difficult to reproduce because I cannot find a way to separate the text into columns.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

While my immediate problem of needing to format columns could probably be fixed with a button in the editor, a more holistic approach might be to offer a range of templates for some standard documents people might want to recreate (birth certificates, newspaper articles, employment contracts, that kind of thing). This could then be a feature that the community could submit their own templates to and from there could grow quite organically.

What are other uses for this feature request?

I cannot think of other direct uses for the feature, but I do think it would be a feature that could inspire some really creative work and that the user generated templates might encourage the development of a whole little community of template modders here on World Anvil. But that is quite possibly wishful thinking on the part of a policy wonk.

Follow up

I'm sorry, could you please clarify what "Manuscripts is not for this built for using longform prose" means. I think the sentence has been somewhat mangled in translation.

The Team's Response

Thank you for this suggestion! Manuscripts is not for this built for using longform prose - However, this is a great use of the documents template in articles! - If you have a deeper concern, please feel free to email us at [email protected].

Telegrams would also be a good template.

I like this idea. This sounds like it would not only speed up building lore. But also make things so they seam a bit more Immersive.

While this isn't something I've sought to create explicitly, I would ABSOLUTELY utilize it if implemented. I don't much use manuscripts right now and this feature would definitely change that.

Templates would definitely incentivize me to use the manuscripts more!

Templates would be a *wild* addition to WA. I can't fathom the number of times I've looked up examples of an article to create a certain style that matches the feeling of, say, a newspaper article.

Having tags that simulate bootstrap grid classes, or just a limited and sanitized html editor (since bootstrap 3/5 is already included) would be a godsend.

I agree with the overall idea, though I wonder how the implantation would work to keep it from spiraling out of control ; Maybe a simple "Template" that could be modified with whatever you wish outside worldanvil (Such as photoshop) could be used to then import the finished product in as a background of sorts, giving the impression it's, say, a newspaper article, while keeping the editing format of the articles the same..?

i might sound insane, but embedding character sheets into article content could solve this. You could create a "character sheet" for a newspaper layout??
