Timelines Connections Linking Navigation Article Articles Connection

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

Currently for Timelines the article connection has two issues. Each category can only be linked to one article causing some events to only appear to connect to one group, location, or session report and the Related Article field can only connect to generic articles. This causes information to be lost both in the timeline's historical entries and the connecting articles. While part of this could be solved with tagging the historical entries in articles this can cause issues with formatting the Related Historical Events field.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

This feature request would fix the current system by allowing multiple articles to be connected under the current categories similar to how many sidebar prompts work in the built in article templates and by allowing any template, or templates that do not already have connections to events, to be connected under the related article instead of just generic articles. This would allow for a wider connection between articles in a world. Improving worlds with large histories or allowing for easier navigation between historical events in all worlds.

It would help to create clear navigation for objects in a world from creation to major events that they took part in. Game Masters would be able to link session reports to events in their world that took multiple session to resolve. For world builders the feature would allow them to show which events affected multiple species, connecting their culture to the event and its outcomes. Finally, by allowing any article to link under generic articles this would widen the flexibility of the timelines tool.

What are other uses for this feature request?

While this feature will likely have the biggest affect on user who regularly use timelines and have rich world histories the added flexibility may allow for some non standard uses of timelines that did not exist before.

Upvote for the extra connectivity. This will totally allow my world which is very history centric, to better connect with the related articles.

I always wanted to connect historical events to conflicts. And some events simultaneously affect several locations. Your suggestion allows it, at last !

Yes please. There is something arbitrary about what type of articles can only have one link to an event (e.g. generic articles and locations) and which ones can have more than one (e.g. characters). I find the ability to only attach to one location particularly restricting. For example, where I have an event affecting an entire continent but particularly associated with an individual city, I'd like to link it to both so that it appears in the sidebar for both (just as I could if they were two or more characters). The same is true of buildings and cities. I end up picking the "best" scope but miss not having multiple locations (and/or articles as mentioned in the original post) as the event is really associated with all of them.
