What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
When making a chronical geopolitical changes can occur, wars, nations being founded, civil wars occuring, empires falling ect. To show these things occuring visually the readers will have to manually switch to a different map. It makes it challenging to show the ebb and flow of the boarders of the world, the progress of a war and the rising and expansion of new nations for the chronicle.
How does this feature request address the current situation?
If map switching could be tied to certain events, or dates in the timeline it would make it possible to show how the geopolitcal situation of the world changes with time. The readers could see how the new nations of the world grew and the vaccum a nation falling could create. If one wanted to make a detailed timeline of a war they could use it to show the effects different battles had on the war and the changing zones of control.
There probably will be some challeneges however with this change though. It may be data intensive to process the switch, and i am not sure the effects this would have on markers. It probably will be a bit more challenging than just coding it to switch the background after a certain date is passed on the timeline.

The Team's Response
Thanks for your suggestion! Linking maps to events is already possible:
- Make sure your maps have markers
- Create/edit an event and link it to a marker on the map you want to change to
Clicking on the event will now change the map and focus it on the chosen marker. Changing the map automatically as you scroll is currently not possible (as parallel events can have different maps and we have no way to tell which one you want to show), so we're declining this.
