The current status is that if I have a character, or a city or a kingdom that has multiple names, sometimes even outdated, I can only refer to them by writing the name of the relevant article, link it, and edit the text.
Classic examples would be women who take their husband's name during the development of the story.
Kingdoms of were ruined and replaced with new ones.
Titles and nicknames...
Editing names like this is tedious, having the autolinker recognise an article by a few redirective titles would save a lot of time going back and forth.
Alternative: Would incorporating tag search for the autolinker be helpful? A woman's maiden family name could be a tag; a country's former name could be a tag, etc. Just have to code one thing - a mode for the search - at that point. No longer need aliases for articles at that point...
This would also let us set up redirects for common spelling mistakes and the like.
Nice idea, but I can't see the benefits of this being worth the development time, as it sounds very complex to implement
This has been suggested multiple times already. See Alternative Spellings for Autolinker, accepted in 2024, and Alternative Names for Autolinking, declined just a few months ago: "We previously accepted a suggestion to have a single alias per article, which is still planned. However, multiple aliases per article will not be implemented due to technical complexity."
