music -link embed immersion

Provide for the ability to embed or background play links such as free music and ambience sounds from other platforms like Youtube or Spotify. The idea being, when you click on a location on the map, along with bringing up the current description you would also have sound. Click on a town, have the town background music. Click on a river, have raging water. Etc.

This could also work well with monologues or personally uploaded history and oracle-like effects. For instance, click on an ancient location and it begins, "Long ago......"

Follow up

The feature would just be a spot to post a link if you want it, it wouldn't be mandatory or required.

This sounds nice in theory, however autoplaying background music was a thing on web pages in the 90s - and you don't see it anymore for very good reason. Everyone hated it, and it often slowed page loading to a crawl!

Feature exists in all capacities it should. Autoplay is a plague.

Sounds awful from the point of view of someone who loves to look at everyone's articles and maps. I hate autoplaying sounds, they slow down browsers and they're rude and intrusive.   If this ever develops into a full fledged VTT, more sound functions would be cool.

having been on tumblr since 2014 when autoplay was all the rage, autoplay is one of the worst features any website could have

Automatically playing sounds are a difficult topic, especially if the user has no way to know that clicking on a map will trigger this.   However, you can already embed a YouTube video or SoundCloud track in the marker description, where it will play when the user clicks on it.

It sounds interesting, but I feel it can be also abused: screamers, loud noises, stuff people might not want or expect. Right now the Spotify/Youtube links you can put above images seems fine for me.

This sounds like the kind of idea that caused the creation of Adblocks...

yaaaaaaaa ... I'm going to add my downvote to this dogpile ... I can imagine convoluted and interesting way that this could be done in a non-terible way, but realistically the dev work, copyright issues, and potential for ubelievable annoyances is too high ... the juice just isn't even remotely worth the squeeze on this one.

This has been suggested and declined in the past. What you ask would involve too many copywrite issues.

I would love this feature, but ONLY if the user/visitor had to opt-in. Everyone saying it could be annoying if it played automatically is right. However, being able to choose to play it or not solves this problem. Please let those of us who would like to add sounds to the ambience of our worlds do so. :)

I really don't care for automatically playing sound/music. If a feature like this were widely employed, I would read far fewer articles from other world builders.

It's be nice if it was an opt-in feature, rather than an automatic one. Since folks might be perusing articles or maps in a library, or at night, and having sudden loud music playing would be both grating and inconsiderate to the folks around them.

I would say do it, but if possible leave a way for users to turn off the feature in the event that they don't want it.

Absolutely not. Automatically playing music or sound files are the WORST, especially for people who don't have the best connections, or people with sensitivities. It's just disrespectful all around.
