manuscripts tagging content-notes
What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
We're currently able to add tags to individual chapters in manuscripts, but they don't actually appear on the reader/audience end. (At least, I could not see them after clicking around.) This makes it more difficult to make it clear how applicable content note tags are to a given work - that is, if they apply to only a few chapters or the work on the whole.
For example, my manuscript has explicit content - but this is largely limited to small amount of chapters compared to the whole. I have been reorganizing to split my longer work into several volumes, where there are only one or two explicit scenes per volume (if any).
I would like to be able to mark which specific chapters have that content in a way that allows readers to decide if it's too much for them - or decide to skip those chapters, as they do on other sites, to enjoy the rest of the work.
I also have some chapters where characters discuss past traumatic events, and some scenes with detailed food preparation and eating (which can be a trigger for those with or recovering from EDs) that I would like to be able to mark more clearly.
How does this feature request address the current situation?
Since there's already a tagging system for individual chapters in place, making these tags visible on the manuscript page seems like an easy way to allow for this kind of tagging.
What are other uses for this feature request?
Could also be used to deliniate shifting POV chapters for readers? Which is another feature visible on the MA editing side but not the reader side.
Included a very quick mock-up using my MS to sort of illustrate what I mean - tags could probably fit under the chapters also (rather than besides), but I think it gets the idea across.
The Team's Response
Thanks for your suggestion! An update to Manuscripts is planned, so we've added this to the list for that update. Public chapter tags in the table of contents will be opt-in, to avoid revealing chapter tags when the writer doesn't want to.
