Manual-save-button If-it-ain&039;t-broken-don&039;t-fix-it

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

Getting rid of the Manual Save Button waver my and many other's process due to the lack of ensuring that our work had been saved and documented.
"If it ain't broken, don't fix it."

How does this feature request address the current situation?

I had my ideas typed in this website, only to get deleted due to the lack of the autosave functioning properly.

What are other uses for this feature request?

It is used as an insurance for our work save during the process of typing and after the project is done.

The Team's Response

Thanks for the suggestion! Removing the manual save button was a conscious decision and it will not be coming back. Every time content is triggered there's a notification, as well as a timestamp that lets you know when the last save happened. If for any reason the system tries to save and it doesn't work, you will get a very clear and visible error, even if your internet connection is down.   That said, autosave only triggering on keypress is a known issue and it's on the list to be fixed. The new WYSIWYG that we're working on doesn't have this issue, and Euclid (the advanced BBCode editor) will be updated to fix this shortly after.

Every time I make a change I have to have eyeballs on the upper right of my screen to see if it saved. Sometimes it doesn't and I have to keep pressing space bar to initiate the save. This is awkward.

Please bring this back - even if the autosave is working perfectly behind the scenes (it's hard to know), the autosave *notifications* certainly don't, so having the reassurance of the save button back would be great!

I wouldn’t mind having both. The autosave is nice, but I don’t fully trust it. So having a manual save button just in case would help.

I am one of paranoid save and don't trust auto save featues. Sometimes i am working on multiple articles at a time and i like to save then go look. There have been times that the save didn't get reconized and i had to go back and redo what i had done.

The current mechanism is working fine for me. I do not want any old-school save button.

I think having autosave and a save button is useful. Perhaps the save button can be used for security. We are all working hard on our own worlds and although I like the autosave, I have lost a little bit of content due to it not saving like I needed it to.

I prefer not relying on a save button, but wouldn't mind if it worked better with copy-paste.

The only problem I have with the autosave system is that it doesn't play nice with the "Content Linking and Mention" system as the system only checks after keystrokes, not anything else. Too many times when I first started here, I looked at a page seeing '@ely' or "[ren" or something else in place of the article link I wanted.   This doesn't seem to be intentional and luckily most people can get around this because through sheer force of repetition, they have gotten used to quickly creating and deleting a random key to make sure it autosaves, before they obsessively refresh a page to make sure the formatting looks absolutely perfect (at least these are all things i do...)   While I am totally 100.01% beyond any reasonable doubt completely perfectly confident that this will eventually be fixed and the autosave function will work at all times, I'm going to upvote these save suggestions anyways, if nothing more than so the devs read it and go "okay, yeah, they're still thinking about it! Message received, stop bringing it up already!"

It's already been said it's not coming back, and think we have to wait for the coming update to the editors as hopefully those fix the autosave issues at the same time.   Until then, I've found it a little less frustrating to make a habit of typing in a text editor software of choice, paste my text into a WA article, and lastly hit space and backspace an extra time to force trigger autosave.

I had to go over an article several times because adding bbcode tags for certain things apparently does not trigger the autosave, so I had to type something else or hit spacebar then backspace. very irritating.

The amount of times that the autosave simply does not function, and I have to literally type and delete one more piece of text (like a period or a word) , is way too often. Having a manual save is so convenient and nice to have, and I used it constantly when the feature was still around.

That is a bit stuck to the past. Most modern applications do not have a manual save button unless it is for initial creation. Which is where WA is also going - if anything we need to go across everything to autosave.

I personally haven't had any (real) issues with autosave, but pressing a button to make sure is great for peace of mind. Which is why I do it in video games with autosave too! Intentionally triggering autosave just isn't the same to the (irrational) brain.

co-signed. i almost always end up adding and immediately deleting random short keysmashes to "manually" induce auto-save, and I would honestly appreciate being able to just push the button again. plus, if you are experiencing network issues, auto-save doesn't always work

As the other voter said, this was already suggested and declined. (As a side note, I literally only have issues with the autosave when I copy and paste something. I believe that's because no keystrokes are being logged by the system. I remedy that by pressing space, then delete.)

This has been suggested (and declined) before, despite a lot of support. See
