Inhabiting species of sub-location appear in parent-location

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

If a species can be found in a forest and I tag that creature type/species article with said forest, but that forest is part of a continent or some other parent-location, whatever it may be, then that creature will not show up as being part of the continent. I think it would be a neat feature if possible that if creatures are in a sub-location they are automatically shown to also be part of the parent-location. or maybe it could be an optional feature even idk it probably gets a bit crowded depending on how many layers something has, but maybe it could be a toggle-able option?

The Team's Response

Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately, we have to decline this for technical reasons. This can potentially require generating very long lists of articles, which would be really hard on the database. You can create your own custom side fields or use tagged lists.

I think this would lead to confusion ("Why is this species showing up on articles i didn't add it to?"). Some people have a lot of layers of parent and child locations, while others might just have one and end up with a really really long list on that parent location. I personally don't want species showing up in places I didn't put them.   For the functionality though, you might want to look into tagged lists! They're a good way to make your own lists of species and such. They're a lot more flexible, you could even make like a "plants on this continent" and "animals on this continent" list rather than just "inhabiting species"

I think it would be good to add as a toggle/optional.

I think it's good as an optional feature.

This is a good idea, though I also agree it could get very long/crowded if you have a lot of species.
