The Luv Field and Luv Nodes

Luv Nodes:

These are places where the Luv is exceptionally strong, often at the intersection of ley lines or near natural formations like mountains, ancient ruins, certain celestial alignments, or ancient monsters and their lairs. Luv Nodes allow Luvteals and other magical creatures to greatly amplify their magic, but they also attract conflict and power struggles as control over these nodes can grant significant advantages.

Luv Wastelands:

Conversely, some areas, known as Luv Wastelands, have little to no Luv. Luvteals in these regions struggle to use magic, and prolonged exposure can drain their personal Luv Wells to dangerous levels, potentially cutting them off from their abilities for a long time.

Luv Currents:

The Luv moves through the world in invisible currents, which can be altered by natural disasters or significant magical events. Luvteals who learn to "read" these currents can predict where Luv will be stronger or weaker, allowing them to strategically plan their magic use.

Personal Luv Wells and Limits

Luv Wells:

Each Luvteal has a Luv Well—a personal reserve of Luv energy they draw from to cast spells or perform magical feats. The size of this well varies from person to person (often determined at birth ) and can be increased with training, and experience. However, the well is finite and must be replenished naturally over time or through access to Luv Nodes.

Overextension:
When a Luvteal exhausts their personal Luv Well, they enter a state of Luv Overburn, where their body begins to deteriorate under the strain of trying to pull more Luv than they can handle. Symptoms include physical exhaustion, bleeding, internal injuries, and mental instability. Continuing to cast spells after reaching this point can result in death or permanent magical loss.

Luv Threshold:
Each Luvteal has a threshold—the maximum amount of Luv they can safely channel at any given time. Surpassing this threshold triggers Luv Backlash, a violent release of uncontrolled magical energy that can cause severe damage to the Luvteal and the environment around them. Backlash often results in magical scars, which can weaken the Luvteal’s ability to access the Luv field in the future.
