Ahmagerd, I just read your story Testing Features, and I was instantly impressed by it! Each line felt like watching an epic movie unfold, I could almost visualize it jumping off the page! I offer questionable and ambiguous opinions if you'd just step over to this third party chat site where I can peddle equally questionable and ambiguous "services"! I loved the scene where Test interacts with Test and Test's courage really shines through. Is Test a symbol for something and what do you have planned for Test because I have some ideas of my own I'd like to share about Test! Plz chat ktthx!!!
Lol oh yeah! Total! My handle is @notg0nnahapp!n!
I've asked before in the FFN thread why don't authors just use bait articles with like Lorem Ipsum to troll bots but apparently that's against TOS. Though I noticed WA is using Cloudflare recently I wonder if there was a DDOS attack recently or if its precaution against bots. FFN's used captchas and cloudflare before but bots are still an issue I think because a human handler operates them they're not fully unmanned.
Is that against TOS on WA? That would be a great bait! Like honey to a fly. It's possible there might have been another attack, but, I suspect that it would be for the bots. I guess they are targeting the fully automated ones first, then they would be attacking the semi-automatous next. But, then again, if they wised up, it would be back to being just as difficult to catch them.
I think it applies to competitive events for obvious reasons but thats prob why they're hitting manuscripts because they generally tend to be labors of love and are worked on during off seasons. I guess an exception would be the Novelember event but even that is basically a participation trophy.
You really aren't wrong about that being a popularity contest, there is a reason I never participate in it. Same with WorldEmber and WAWA. I don't see a problem with setting bait for bots like that. Especially when I can put warnings like I do in my manuscripts now, they still respond to it. So I think it should be fair game as long as you make it obvious to an actual person that it is bait.
