"Red,” the smaller boy had been quite for some time. “are we going to die?"

"No." Red wrapped an arm around Eli's narrow shoulders. They were both straddling a structural crossbeam above an alcove in the cargo hold while the gravgens came online. For the moment they were stuck.

"I think I can jump down." The older boy studied the spot under them.

"What about me? I can't jump that far!"

"I can catch you. Or I can move something over so you can jump down."

"I want to stay here." Eli was sullen.

"We can stay." Red assured him.

A few minutes passed and the curly haired boy tried to convince Eli again to move from their perch.

"If we're found here there's no place to hide. We should find a better spot. Or we should find someone else who can help, like your brother."

"But Peter is with the captain." Eli began to doubt.

"I know but who ever is boarding us will probably have words with the captain and if they are dangerous then they may need help. I have an idea that could get us there without being seen '

Eli listened to the plan and agreed to go along with it.
